The Chinese government has followed the American the government in advocating solar roofs plans to promote the use of renewable energy, which suggests citizens pave solar panels on their roofs to generate electricity.

 

However, the advocacy of solar roofs initiatives in China could be debatable. Owning to the high population density, most of China’s cities have consisted of high-rises, which have comparatively fewer roof area and cast shadows significantly. In fact, Solar Roofs Initiatives are not suitable in China.

 

With the retrospect of China’s Urbanization Path, one common character of China’s cities could be found easily - ring roads. Ring roads, which are straight, flat, and have wide sections, are the ideal plate to pave solar panels. Comparing with installing solar panels on roofs with different shapes and sizes, assembling solar panels above ring roads are more modularized and more centralized.
